DAN DUBOWITZ & DR JOHNATHAN DJABAROUTI NAMED AS 2023 AHRC INNOVATION SCHOLARS

Manchester School of Architecture (MSA) is proud to announce that two of its leading academics, Dan Dubowitz and Dr Johnathan Djabarouti, have been recognised as AHRC Innovation Scholars in 2023.
Dan Dubowitz has been awarded funding to undertake a three-year secondment with Landsec U+I, the UK’s largest private property developer. His project focuses on the transformation of Mayfield, Manchester’s last remaining city-centre post-industrial wasteland. This pioneering research will explore how creative placemaking can drive urban regeneration, with findings set to inform Landsec U+I’s key developments in Glasgow, London, and Cambridge.
Dr Johnathan Djabarouti will commence his AHRC-funded secondment with Historic England in 2024. His project, titled ‘Intangible Heritage and Design in Historic Contexts’, will investigate how intangible cultural heritage informs design and conservation practices in historic environments. By engaging with Historic England’s strategic priorities, this research aims to deepen the understanding of heritage narratives and their role in shaping future conservation policy.
Both secondments exemplify the Heritage & Humanities research group’s commitment to impactful research, driving innovation in the fields of architecture, heritage, and urban regeneration.
